Where’d We Go: Group Drive – Skull Valley, Arizona
Something is not right with this picture…. perhaps the elephant in the room… quite literally.
It had been many, many months since we last organized a group drive… with my friend Jack having recently purchased a semi-used 2006 Acura RSX – he and Tyson were itching to check out some back roads.
When I got the text seeing if anyone wanted to do a quick drive, I was hesitant in asking if it was okay to bring the tester I had along… a 2016 Nissan Titan XD 4×4 that weighted nearly more than all the cars combined on this trip.
The destination was Skull Valley. I had been to Skull Valley once before in 2012 when I first started this whole blogging business. Its a tiny little historic town that occupies less than 500 people according the 2003 census – I’m guessing that’s gone down a bit since then. The town was named Skull Valley when human remains where discovered from previous battles between the Native Americans.
We had five cars in total – (3) V-8’s and (2) four-cylinder yuppies – 2003 Pontiac GTO, 2013 Audi RS5, 2013 Acura ILX, 2006 Acura RSX, and my pig. We started our way out of Phoenix heading towards Prescott’s via I-17 – traffic was heavy for a Saturday morning making it hard for me to maneuver my way in and out of traffic to keep up with the racers. During that time, we were celebrating my friend Kyle’s roll to 100,000 miles with a 100 mph celebration on his GTO.
Once we left the interstate, we worked our way through Wickenburg and stopping for gas before hitting the narrow twisty roads to Skull Valley. Once in Skull Valley we stopped to snap some pictures, I felt it was only appropriate to leave the Titan out of everyone picture since this was more of a sports car thing…
Leaving town, we stopped in Prescott for lunch – luckily Kyle already knew where to stop, Rosa’s Pizzeria where their specialty is the Chicken Martini – the whole table but one (always has to be one) ordered it – TO. DIE. FOR.
By the time we left Prescott, I lost sight of the group, getting out of the parking garage in a car that’s as big as a house just can’t keep up with them sports car – I managed to catch up to them at Lake Lynx for a quick breath of fresh air before heading back to Phoenix.
Haha, I am not a yuppie! That was cool that you caught the photo of the Titan at the same time the in-motion freight train was approaching.
Considering the ILX can do donuts around the Titan, I suppose not. 😉 Yes the photo I managed to capture. Haha. She just didn’t fit anywhere.
